Those looking to ditch chemical based window cleaners might want to consider an environmentally friendly glass cleaner.
The current economy has caused many people to scale back the amount that they spend on items. Within that group, I imagine there’s some that will be looking for affordable natural recipes to replace normal items they purchase from stores. The items used in this all natural glass cleaner, are cheap and does a great job getting your windows cleaned.
What’s great about this homemade glass cleaner? Since the items used are common, you might already have them at home. The essential oil is optional, but since I use it in my natural skin care products I always have plenty available.
I use this glass cleaner at home. I like it since it does leaves our windows streak free. The added benefit is that it does it naturally without any harmful ingredients.
Natural Glass Cleaner
- Spray Bottle
- 1 quart of warm water
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 10 drops of lemon essential oil (optional)
Directions
- Add all the ingredients into the spray bottle.
- Shake well before using.

Hi @Jennifer,
You’ve got to love those natural cleaners, in many cases they’re just as effective as the chemical cleaners.

I don’t know if you think this is environment friendly but we spray a bit of water on the glass and wipe dry with old newspapers. Very clean, stain free…

Hello @suituapui,
Thanks for stopping by. I do that too. With the stubborn spots, vinegar seems to do the trick.

HI @Edith, It’s an economical, and ‘earthy friendly’ way to keep surfaces clean. When my daughter was younger, she loved to leave marks in the mirror. I guess she liked the ‘patterns’ that she could make? So yes, ‘finger prints in mirrors’ was part of my daily life. Now that she’s eight-years old, she rarely does that.

wow, i didn’t realize glass cleaner was that easy to make. I can save a bit of money at the store now and make it myself from now on. Is there anything you can add to it that will make it smell better? I’ve never had a glass cleaner smell i like, but i guess it does not linger after its clean so its not a huge deal.

Hi @Pat@Chicago Video Production Company, You can always add a few drops of essential oil; perhaps 10 – 20. Lemon,, peppermint, or rosewood, are a few essential oils that I use in my homemade cleaning products.

I love using natural cleaners. I always make my own cleaners or use a trusted natural cleaner that I know works. Its sad that most people don’t know that natural cleaners work as well as the junk that is bad for the environment that is heavily advertised.

I agree @Susan Bewley,
There are so many natural options available, and they can be just as effective, and more environmentally friendly, than that has a lot of extras that we really don’t need.
