Maryland Ravens are #1 – Wheelchair Basketball

Last year my daughter and I were able to attend one of Maryland Ravens game. They used to be called the Baltimore Ravens, and although they’ve been around much longer than the professional football team (40 years if I remember correctly) the Baltimore Ravens they still had to change their name… they chose the Maryland Ravens.

The Maryland Ravens are a great group of people that can’t use their legs but still manage to participate in a sport they love, and they do it so well. I’m on their mailing list so I still receive updates.  I’m so proud to hear that currently they’re ranked #1!

I also love their motto … Ability Despite Disability. I personally know a few able bodied folks that really should apply that motto into their own lives.

True! True! Some people seem quite dead, though still alive. So very inactive…and now we have a generation glued to ipads, smartphones and what not – with hardly any interest in anything and sadly unable to socialise and mingle with friends – they do not know how. Tragic!

I remember you posting about this years ago perhaps it was a different team, not sure, but it has stuck with me! Congrats to them! What a wonderful celebration!

These stories are more inspirational to me than those of highly paid professional athletes. They persevere in the face of adversity and don’t the difficulties life throws at them keep them from enjoying life to the fullest. Recently I tore my ACL playing basketball, and haven’t been able to play for months. I’ve been getting the itch to play again, but should be grateful it is not worse. There are lots of other things I can do in the meantime.
