An early surprise

Birthday Party Surprise Next Thursday, is my daughter’s birthday. Tomorrow I’m having a cake made for her and I’ll make her very special dinner; lentil tacos, egg rolls and ice cream.

I already texted the BF about surprising her a bit early. He’s thrilled that he’s included on the early surprise.

It’s become a tradition for me to knit her an amigurumi. Can you believe I have not even started to knit one yet? Whatever am I thinking about? Of course, by now, my daughter *knows* I’m knitting a stuffed toy for her, she just does not know what? All her knitted/crocheted amigurumis have a special place of honor in her room. It makes me feel special that she loves her hand crafted items so much that she proudly displays them.

We’ll be celebrating at the BF’s house, so he won’t have as far to come. He gets off of work much later than me and he lives an hour away. In doing this, he’ll be able to celebrate her birthday, a bit early, and won’t feel disappointed that he won’t be there on her actual birth date; however, knowing him, I would not be surprised if he makes the trip on her actual day to see the both of us.

After all… this is the same man that drove one hour (after work) just to spend thirty minutes with us. It was a complete surprise. He made a cake just for her. Yes… he’s a keeper! 😉

Middle School Spring Concert – A few pictures

Here are a few pictures that were taken of last nights Middle School Spring concert. The children always put on an amazing concert.

I love this picture of my father, daughter and me. I’ll be getting this printed and framed.

At times, it’s hard to believe these children are in middle school. There’s a lot of talent at our Lutheran School.

Much to my daughters delight, the BF was able to attend the event. He was coming from work and lives an hour away. We both had busy days and were extremely tired, but we enjoyed the performance put on by her Lutheran school immensely.

Dreadlocks: Locking it up…

This morning, my daughter took the above photo. I was getting ready to start dressing for work.

While I really love wearing my dreads down, recently, I’ve been pulling them up in updo styles. My locks are so long that I can tie them around each other to secure and keep them up on top of my head. However sometimes I wear my hair in headwraps also.

I’ve included a few videos for your viewing pleasure. The first is how to maintain your locs.

Here’s a great video on how to wear your dreads in an updo. If you want to skip straight to the tutorial, just go to the 3:00 mark.

Dating: Another adventure…

For the past few months, it’s been unusually quiet on all my personal sites. I’ve been immersing myself in what I love, crafting and I am also dating. Most importantly, for me, is he’s a Christian. He’s Catholic. He’s 6′, and he’s Lithuanian, Italian and Polish. We went to High School together and we were in the same grade.

A lot of the surprises aren’t there since we’ve known one another for 28 years.  In our high school days, I knew him as the class clown, I thought he was very attractive (still think that) but he was way too nutty for me, even if my parents had allowed me to date in High School.

Fast forward to the present, and I must say that I love the man he’s turned into. My daughter has met and approved of the BF. my brother, who was in the same grade as us  and approves of him too. He’s met my parents, I’ve met his along with many of his other relatives.

But back to my daughter’s approval… there’s no way, I’d be dating him if she didn’t like him. She loves him. He loves her. My daughter and me are a package deal. We normally do something twice weekly. Half of the outings include my daughter, in fact the pictures I posted recently of the Pen Mar park, was something we all did together.

I definitely wasn’t expecting to be in a relationship. When my friends/acquaintances would ask, I’d say, “That man will literally have to fall in my path. I’m not looking, I’m relying on God to lead the right man to me, and if he doesn’t I’ll be content.” Well, God chose the man for me and so I’m relying on him.

You know… I really hate the term boyfriend/girlfriend since we both feel it does not describe where we are at, but until I can think of an appropriate title, here at Celebrate Life he’ll be the BF, ok?

One lovely Sunday…

Yesterday, after church, we went for a drive and here was our destination.

I must say, it was beautiful.

My daughter laid out on her stomach. An indication that she is happy with her surroundings.

There were other couples that were enjoying the beauty that God has on display.

I savored every single moment…
