The cooler months are my favorite time of year. Unfortunately with the change in temperature it also means saying farewell to our lovely flowers — at least for a few seasons. Taking pictures is a great way to remember them, when they’re no longer around outside.
We still have plenty of unblemished roses on our rose bush, but ย I was more intrigued by the ones that were starting to fade, and so I snapped many photos of the roses fading beauty.
The picture above, was taken on a particularly foggy day. As I recall, It was taken right before I took my daughter to school. It was a chilly morning — perfect for me. Besides taking pictures of flowers, I took pictures of the fog, our woods, and a few birds flitting around in the early morning sunshine.
I used my dependable Nikon D80 for this photo.ย I’ve had the camera for about six years, and although I’ve purchased a few more cameras (and lens) since that time. It’s still my camera of choice — when I haven’t lost the Nikon D80 battery charger.
The majority of my photo editing is done with Aperture 3, it’s an amazing photo editing software for Apple computers. I don’t edit all my photos, and this is one I kept as is — no edits.ย I have Aperture 3 installed on my 17″ MacBook Pro.
The flowers, around our home, serve as a gentle reminder (for me) that although I have a lot of projects that keep me busy, I also need to take time to relax and enjoy life. Also, I’m reminded that something (or someone) doesn’t need to be ‘perfect’ to be beautiful.
Great photo! I’ve missed your photography! LOVE the colors and textures!

Hi @Jennifer,
This past week, I took a few photos. I’ll be a few more this week, and I have some scheduled for posting while I’m away for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sad to see that beautiful rose shrivel up but it’ll be back next year, brighter and even more beautiful. I saw your comment about spam on STP. Have you tried this plugin, amcaptcha? Works great. I have zero spam, and to make sure they don’t even end up in my trash, I have them automatically deleted.

Hi @philip,
I know, I always feel sad when I see my shriveled up roses, but you’re right they’ll return.
I think I’ve seen that version around, but I’ve never used it on any of my sites. I did reactivate Defensio and Bad Behavior at the same time I installed the Spam Free addon that was giving me that error message. Upon further research, I realized Spam Free isn’t something I’d want anyway, since it requires the reader to copy/paste a message to prove they aren’t a spambot.
With Defensio I changed the settings so I can see which comments go to the spam folder. By default, you can’t see them. I’m always paranoid that a real comment will slip through. Thus far, it’s knocked out most of the obvious spam completely, and so the repeat offenders are gone for good. Since I installed it Friday, there’s only been two ‘iffy comments’ waiting in the Defensio Spam folder. I marked those as spam, and I won’t see them anymore. It’s a welcome change from the few hundred I was receiving daily.
I’ll check out the Word Press addon you mentioned, thanks so much for sharing. ๐
Winter will be here soon… Keep warm, stay dry…take care.

Hello @suituapui,
Oh I’ve definitely done that. Have you read the story about the ant and grasshopper? Well… I’m the ant. ๐
Even though it’s in its first stages of decay it still has an essence of beauty about it.
I love taking photos of flowers and such around the garden and posting them on my photo blogs. Sometimes getting up nice and close gives it a completely different perspective.

Hi @Sire,
I agree, it’s still beautiful. In the woods, on our property, there are some fallen trees. Some of them are in varying stages of decay. I’ve had a lot of fun taking pictures.
Yep, I enjoy the close-up shots too. However, I was too lazy to go inside and swap camera lens. ๐
I can’t wait to see the new Thanksgiving pics! Woot!!!! I am working on some new seasonal tea reviews today so I will try and swing by and let you know when I have them up and posted…I am going to schedule post several ๐ Today I received a large box from China! Looking forward to those teas today and tomorrow ๐

Hi @Jennifer,
I enjoy taking photos, I’m not sure if I’ll have a chance to post while we’re on vacation. I’m bringing my 17″ MacBook Pro, and although there’s WiFi access where we’ll be staying, I most likely won’t take advantage of that feature. The first dew days I usually just rest, and stay away from anything technology related. It’s a great time to spend with family and meditate.
I look forward to your tea reviews. I’ll pop by there later today.
Off topic…
I recently returned from the quilters group. It was so much fun! I’ll have to post about those lovely ladies, and the quilts I helped make. ๐
@Opal,
How long will you be on vacation for? Where will you be going again…I can’t remember!
I mentioned in my other comment about the commentluv timing out! Looks like it’s only timing out on the Sororitea Sisters site. Blissful Place looks like it’s working!
Looking forward to your quilting creations! The ladies sound lovely!
I have some neat news to share with you SOON ๐ Just want to make sure I am allowed to tell people first! LOL

Hi @Jennifer, We’ll be leaving out next Tuesday and returning that Saturday.
The message
is a server side issue. It’s not the Comment Luv addon, that’s causing it.
When I experienced that error message (a few years ago) it was caused by RSS feed. It had errors.
I’d follow up with your hosting provider and let them know what’s happening so they can address the issue.
I look forward to hearing the news. ๐

Hi @Dyane,
Thanks so much, I love taking pictures. One day, I’ll start including them with my paper crafts.
I love flowers when they are fading- my wife always wants to throw them out- but I think that they have a regal quality
