Handcrafted cards; Down to the last one…

This past Friday (May 1) we celebrated my BF’s son’s birthday. He turned 19 on May 3.

I went to my selection of cards, only to find that only one white embossed card existed and I had no more envelopes. Sighs… since I did not have time, I used the card and simply tucked the card (along with his gift of money) into a tiny gift bag.

Yesterday, my daughter and I hung out the entire day and so I started making cards/envelopes.

I love bright colors and so naturally I chose the appropriate card stock and patterned paper.

I also wanted something quick and simple so I did not get elaborate with emboss, stamps, etc., I’ll be making more cards this week, to build up my supply and I’m sure I’ll get a bit more fancy, although I don’t think I’ll get as elaborate with mine as Jennifer.

Apples and strawberries: Juice of the day

Strawberries and applesI juice almost daily. The only time I don’t juice is when I have leftover juice from the day before.

Here’s what I juiced this morning.

  1. 5 medium sized Apple
  2. 1 cup of strawberries
  3. 1 cup of spinach
  4. 1.5″ Ginger

I’m not sure what I call this, but it tasted great. I much prefer savory drinks, but I wanted something sweet and this was wonderful. With this high energy drink, who needs coffee? I never was a coffee drinker.

Guess what? The BF, hasn’t had coffee in over three weeks. He’s juicing also. Initially he was shocked that he did not need coffee as a stimulant in the morning, but now… not so much. I told him, I’d turn him into a juicer. If you’d have asked him a few months ago would he be juicing produce he would have laughed and said, no. In fact… he did. 😉

Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival 2015

So… I will (finally) be going to the Maryland Sheep & Wool festival this year. It slipped my mind in 2014, and I had another event to attend in 2013, so even though I wanted to attend I could not.

Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival

Early this week, I remembered that it was coming up and logging on to their Facebook page, I saw it was this weekend. Here’s where it gets interesting. I thought about it for several hours, reminded myself to tell the BF, that although I did not want to change our plans, I would, because of this annual event.

Well guess what? I did not get a chance to ask him.  One of the first things, my BF, asked when he called was , “Opal, Do you want to go the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival?” “I know how much you love your fiber crafts and I think it would be a fun even for us to do.” I never told him about the event; however, I was touched that he would ask me that and more importantly, not minding attending the event with my daughter and me. He went on to tell me he saw an advertisement about the event, when he was coming home from work. The fairgrounds is about five minutes away from where he lives.

Of course, I’m thrilled that he remembered how much I love fiber crafts and am impressed that he actually wants to attend such an event with a fiberholic like myself. I’ll be good, and I’ll have a reminder (my daughter) who I’m sure will let me know when she’s ready to leave.

I’ll be sure to post some pictures of what I purchase.

Vegan: Loving my Chana Masala

A few days ago, I made this delightful Indian dish.

Chana Masala

It wasn’t as colorful as I would have liked, but it still was delicious, and there were leftovers. The garbanzo (chick peas) had been made last week. I had made a large batch in my 8 qt. Presto pressure cooker and just froze what I didn’t use immediately.

Earlier this week, I took out some of the beans and added them to the above dish. Making the basic staples for a dish in large quantities means you still get a home cooked meal, once you add a few extras. Simple, nutritious, delicious and ready to be served in minutes..
