Triple treble crochet aka double treble crochet

I stumbled upon triple treble crochet by accident..

Last December, when I l learned to crochet,  after learning the basic stitches I just did my own thing. I called it ‘playing with stitches’. While playing with stitches, I would do various yarn overs, to see how it would look. It was a lot of fun for myself, playing around with crochet, not being concerned about following a pattern. I just wanted to become comfortable with holding a hook.  Fast forward a month later, and I learned that one of the stitches that I adored is called, triple treble crochet! And while triple treble crochet wasn’t new to me, when tackling this scarf, making the double double treble group was…

So while this video isn’t how to make the double double treble group (ddtg) it’s helpful for those wanting to learn how to make the double treble crochet (dtc) aka triple treble crochet (ttc).

You want to know something, the crocheted scarf I’m making would have come in handy at my daughter’s outdoor soccer game this morning. My daughter and I both took a nap, shortly after arriving home from her soccer game. It was chilly! 30F/+1.1C And the wind was blowing which made it colder.

In hindsight I should have brought one of my super thick crocheted or knitted afghans. It would have kept my legs nice and toasty. Cool weather is a great time to flaunt your yarnie creations. My daughter was rocking her knitted owl hat on the soccer field.

It’s time to correct my mistakes with the lovely crocheted scarf. Admittedly, mine isn’t looking too lovely at the moment, but it will once I correct my mistakes, and you better believe I’ll be wearing this scarf! Remember how I mentioned that most animal fibers make me itch, well I’ve found a wool brand that my skin tolerates, and it’s Patons Classic Wool!

Paying attention to the details…

For the past few months, I’ve been searching for the perfect scarf pattern to make. All this time, I thought it would be something knitted, but I was lured in by one of Sarah’s lovely designs. Oh, I’m thrilled, just discovered that Sarah now has a blog!

This is not how the double double treble group (ddtg) should look.

I’ve been working on this pattern test for a little while, squeezing in stitches when I had the chance. Early this morning, while I was crocheting I realized that something was odd with Row 1, it looked nothing like Sarah’s pretty design. I was in Row 8, there are about 13 rows total. Yeah, not fun!  I looked at her design, and other pictures left by pattern testers, and realized that I’d left out a crucial step… I wasn’t working the new stitch in the same stitch as the last group double double treble group (ddtg). Well, that would explain the wonky look!

You can see a lot of my frogged work wrapped around the variegated yarn.

Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise? I wasn’t thrilled with the multicolored yarn for this project, and so I think I’ll swap that yarn and replace it with another color. I have a lot of yarn, and added more to my yarn stash yesterday. Oh well, I’ll have time today. My daughter and I are planning to have a day of crafts,  after her soccer game this morning.

Crochet is my newest craft, it’s almost been a year. I’ve really enjoyed my crochet journey. I’ve moved past turning practice crocheted swatches into doll clothing (which thrilled my daughter) and have moved on to making actual crocheted items.

This pattern has challenged me (in a good way) to expand my crochet stitches, and it has given me ideas of things I can make using the stitch.

You know something? Frogging the majority of my work, could have been avoided if only I’d paid more attention to the pattern.

Pampering my skin

I’ve been making my own natural skin care products (shampoo, lotions, soap, facial cleansers, scrubs, etc) for over twenty years. I was naturally curious about the ingredients that went into products, and during my time of research I ;earned a lot, accumulated numerous books on natural skin care and picked up a few certifications in the process (such as my aromatherapy certification). I even had a small business that focused on natural skin care products, and while I still make products for a few stores, I’m not doing the volume I used to.

About a year ago, one of my favorite essential oil companies stopped making essentials and is now strictly a resource database for all things related to essential oils. I still frequent the site, but I sure wish that they still had their essential oils. Earlier today, I restocked my supply of essential oils (I purchase in bulk so my supplies last a while) and I’m hoping that I’m liking the quality of the companies products. Either way, I’ll  definitely write a review once they arrive.

Another excuse to knit; Christmas gift swap

At my job outside the home, they do a Christmas swap.

You purchase an item for the name you draw, luckily for me the name I picked belongs to a really nice young man who’s  very crochet /knit worthy… so along with the prepaid visa card that he can use wherever he likes  (he has a wife, and a little baby, so I’m sure he can use the money for his family — if he chooses to do so) I’ve decided to knit him something.  The thing is, I’m not sure what the ‘something’ will be… but I’m leaning towards a scarf or mittens, or perhaps both! We’re supposed to get a lot of snow this winter. I’ve made all my Christmas handcrafted items already so I’ll have plenty of time to work on whatever I make for him. The party isn’t scheduled until mid December.

In other knitting news…

I finally got around to making my daughter the fingerless gloves she loves so much. I made one for her last night while we watching the Monster High: Ghoul’s Rule movie. I’ll knit the other this evening. Hopefully I’ll be able to post pictures this weekend.

I cry…

Sometimes I cry when I chop onions. It’s the only time I “cry”. But today I didn’t “cry” while chopping onions.

Earlier this afternoon, I was craving Indian food, so I made my own version of dry chana masala, but I didn’t use garbanzo beans.

Not exactly a dry chana masala, but still delicious!

My daughter hasn’t had this dish in several years, but she thoroughly enjoyed it, and before I knew it, it all disappeared into her stomach.

When I first heard the song I Cry, I instantly thought about Piano in the Dark by Brenda Russell (scroll all the way down to hear that song). It’s always nice to hear my old favorites get brought back to life with a new twist. I’d like to think ,that regardless of my age I’ll still have an appreciation for all types of music.

Flo Rida: I Cry
I know
Caught up in the middle
I cry, just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no
Gave up on the riddle
I cry, just a little
When I think of letting go

[Flo Rida]
I know you wanna get behind the wheel Only 1 Rida
Eyes shut still got me swimming like a diver
Can’t let go I got fans in Okinawa
My heart to japan quake losers and surviours
Norway no you didn’t get my flowers
No way to sound better but the killer was a Coward
Face just showers, the minute in a hour
Heard about the news all day went sour
Lil mama got me feeling like a limit here
Put you in the box just the presidents cigarettes
Give em my regards or regardless I get arrested
Ain’t worried about the killers just the young & restless
Get mad coz the quarter million on my necklace

You & I or jealously was not oppressive
Oh no I can’t stop I was Destined

I know

When I think of letting go
Oh no

When I think of letting go

[Flo Rida]
Champagne buckets still got two tears in it
And I put that on my tattoo of Jimi Hendrix
Get depressed coz the outfit all in it
Coz the press tell it all get a meal ticket
Clean next get a call just a lil visit
Sacrifice just to make a hit still vivid
Rihanna kiss you on ya neck just kill critics
Buggatti never when I’m rich, just god fearing
Look at me steering, got the bossing staring
Mr mike caren, tell his Billie Jeans

Thank E-Class, Big Chuck or Lee Prince Perries
Buy my momma chandeliers on my tears dammit
Thirty years you had thought these emotions vanish
Tryna live tryna figure how my sister vanish
No cheers I know you wouldn’t panic

I know
Caught up in the middle
I cry, just a little
When I think of letting go
Oh no

Adding to my yarn stash

I had no intention of purchasing yarn today.

Earlier today, I took my daughter to A.C. Moore so she could select a Springfield doll. She wasn’t expecting the doll, and was thrilled when we went to the doll section and I told her to choose a doll.

For those familiar with American Girls doll. The Springfield dolls look a lot like the American Girl dolls, but instead of paying over $100, you can purchase Springfield dolls for a little over $20.00. You can purchase Springfield dolls at AC Moore, JoAnn Fabrics, and Michaels department stores. If you have a 50% off coupon, you can get them even cheaper. You can use AC Moore, JoAnn Fabrics, and Michaels stores coupons at each others stores. Perfect for when you want to take advantage of a 50% coupon. I’ve noticed that AC Moore seems to offer those coupons more than the other two stores. So use the highest coupon when you visit the other craft store!

I’m loving these colors…

Since we were there, I decided to check to see their selection of wool, and I came home with three skeins of Patons Classic Wool. It was on sale for $3.99 per skein. I’ve never used Patons before, but I’ve been wanting to make some felted projects for a few gifts and I’d read that this brand felts well.

The above color is Kimono, and I already have ideas of what I’ll be making with this yarn.  I did notice that my local A.C. Moore has remodeled their yarn section. There seems to be a lot more yarn too.  It looks really nice. Hmm… I just might have to add A.C. Moore onto my yarn stash list.
