His friends girlfriend is a breast cancer survivor. From what the BF said, the trip should take about 1.5 hours. We’ll end the time at a restaurant. We’ll mainly be traveling back roads. I’m really looking forward to this occasion since it’ll give me a chance to meet some of his friends, and more importantly the lady behind the benefit. Hopefully, we’ll be able to take plenty of pictures.
I’m praying that the weather is nice since this event is happening rain or shine. I have no desire to ride, on a motorcycle, in the rain! No thanks… I think I’ll pass on that. People drive crazy enough when the conditions are nice, why add rain to the mix? 😉
My goodness did the time fly by! This past weekend, we visited my BF’s parents in Deleware. If you remember, we had visited them once before, on that trip, we took my daughter to Ocean City, Maryland. Ocean City was a first for both my daughter and me and seems to be quite the “local vacation spot,” for Marylanders… and while it was nice, it’s not something I’d be falling over myself to visit anytime soon. No thank you… there are plenty of other places that are a bit more to my liking, minus the crowd.
But let me get back to our current visit. As my mom would say, we did not let the dust settle under our feet. We arrived around 8:30 on Friday evening and visited for about two hours before we all went to bed. We were exhausted. However, Saturday morning (while the BF slept) the BF’s parents, my daughter and I went for a walk. My daughter said it was about an hour. Really? It didn’t seem that long since the time flew by so quickly… and that’s wonderful since it shows we enjoyed our time together.
Playing Bocce ball with my daughter and my BF’s mom.
Later that day, we went to the pool and afterwards his father grilled. There were burgers, bratwurst, beans, salad and a few other “picnic type items,” that I can’t remember. I do know that it all tasted amazing! A bit later his mom, my daughter and I played Bocce ball. It was the first time playing (for me). My daughter said she’d played virtual Bocce ball on the Wii. My daughter led for quite some time until the end when his mom narrowly beat her by two points. The final score was
BF’s mom 12
Daughter  10
Me                7
The BF’s mom is on a Bocce ball team!
My BFs dad with steamed crabs.
As if we didn’t have enough food, that evening we had steamed crabs. Here’s a picture of his dad eating some of them.
My daughter and me puzzling over a puzzle.
Do you remember that puzzle I said we were working on during our last visit? My daughter and I were able to finish it on Saturday!
We ended our time together by going to Sunday mass at 10:00 a.m., afterwards we went to brunch at a local restaurant. They had an all day breakfast buffet, and that’s what everyone wanted. Over our meal we talked. It was nice hearing his father’s testimony about what led him to Christ. My BF had just shared an experience and after his father talked, I shared an experience I had about eight years ago. So not only were we being fed physically, we fed one another spiritually too. How awesome is that?
All too soon it was time to say our goodbyes, hugs were swapped, thank yous tossed about, bags packed and the BF, my daughter and I headed back to Maryland. We have plenty of wonderful memories to share and think about fondly until the next time we meet again…
This past Saturday evening, I took a nice, long and leisurely ride on my BF’s Harley Davidson.
Dennis Hopper (with mustache) and Peter Fonda in scene from the movie: “Easy Rider.” June 30, 1969.
It wasn’t like this scene from Easy Rider.
I was the passenger! Of course, we did not have a chance to chat too much while riding. What with the wind whistling by, it makes it a bit hard to understand what the other is saying. However, occasionally, we chatted. One of his first questions was if I was enjoying myself. I was but… the seat was very uncomfortable. I went on to say, that I did not have a lot of cushion on my butt so I could feel every single thing as we rode. He laughed and told me that I did indeed have a little butt. He patted my leg and we continued down the road for a little stretch. I waited a bit to tell him, since I knew he had been looking forward to having me along. I did not want him to be disappointed that I did not enjoy it as much as him. Besides, I was able to tolerate it for a bit. Guess what? Not too long after I told him about the discomfort, he turned around and went back home and swapped out the seat. The difference was like night and day. Wow, no more discomfort and I really was able to enjoy the experience.
The above song and motorcycle rides seem to go together.
Of course… when I hear the song, I always think of the last scene in Dazed and Confused. Have you seen the movie?
This past weekend, The BF, my daughter and I took a trip to Great Falls Park.
Great Falls Park, is a National Historic Park, that can be easily accessed from Maryland, DC and West Virgina. In fact, when we reached the Great Falls we were able to look across and see people in the observation deck from the West Virgina side. How neat is that?
Great Falls Park: Potomac River
We enjoyed our time there even though it was super hot!
Great Falls Park: Potomac River
It was nice to observe the awesomeness of Gods handiwork.
The sun was very bright. Please ignore the squinting. 😉
It also gave us a chance to hang out together… even if the sun was in our eyes!
Guess what? We even got a chance to see how the aqueducts were used to let boats access bodies of water.
What is an aqueduct?
Aqueduct
a. A pipe or channel designed to transport water from a remote source, usually by gravity.
b. A bridgelike structure supporting a conduit or canal passing over a river or low ground.
These aqueducts were manual. I’m unsure how long they have been in existence’ however, I do know in order to open them it was done manually. The BF took a video and when I get around to uploading it on Youtube, I’ll be sure to post it here.
This past weekend, I did not see my friend from high school. This past Saturday, she was sick, and even though she made it clear that I still could come up to visit, I declined and told her to get her rest. We’d see her, and the rest of her family, when she was feeling better. After all, the world wasn’t coming to an end just because we didn’t see each other and I do believe that us not going worked out very well. My car was leaking transmission fluid and this gave my father to check it out to see what was causing the issue. The filter seems to be the culprit and that has been replaced.
Sunday, the BF came over and we spent an enjoyable time eating, teasing and spending time just being together. We normally see each other a few times weekly, but with him being sick last week, yesterday was the only time I’ve seen him since Sunday, August 12. We both shared the same sentiments… not wanting to go that long without seeing each other again. We both missed each other immensely and that’s a wonderful feeling.
This Saturday, I’m hoping to meet up with an old classmate from high school. I have not seen her in over twenty years; however, we do stay in contact via Facebook and more recently text messages and phone calls. To be perfectly honest, there’s no reason why we should not have gotten together sooner.
For the past few months, I’ve prayed to God that he would surround me with fellow Christian ladies that I could interact and hang out with. Well.. God gave me a gentle shake and told me, “Opal, they are all around you! You just need to take the initiative and reach out to them… and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
How will we spend our time together? Well, we are planning on doing some paper crafting. My daughter is tagging along and she wants to sketch. We are also going to share dinner together. How awesome will that be? A fun-filled time of fellowship, crafting and eating. If she gives me the “ok,” I’ll be sure to post a few pictures here on Celebrate Life.
I had to chuckle at the poster I’ve included above. I’m happy to say, that most of the things listed here, I could not identify with.
I’m also including the above video, I Wanna Go Back, by Eddie Money since it does make me think of High School; however, I don’t want to go back… 😉 I’m content with my life and even with the occasional pits I’ve stumbled in along my life path, I’m happy with my life.
