Sent home from school; juicing to the rescue

Earlier this week, while I was at work, I received a call from the school nurse that my daughter wasn’t feeling well. She was coughing continuously, complaining of a sore throat, and she told me the inside of her throat appeared red and swollen. That’s not good! Since I was right in the middle of an important project I called my father and asked if he could retrieve her from school. He did. I instructed her to get plenty of rest and told her that I’d help her fight off the symptoms after work.

Later that day, when we were both home, I made her something similar to the sunshine juice that I prepared about a week ago. I did switch things up a bit. For example,  I only used five apples instead of ten. Also, I added three medium sized grapefruit for this juice blend. All the produce used are excellent in combating a variety of ailments, including things such as the common cold or sore throat.

Since I’ve been voraciously studying nutrition and the amazing ways that we can heal ourselves naturally, I didn’t have to track down what would help my daughter fight off her sore throat and coughing. Later that day I made a vegetable soup for her in my pressure cooker and only had her drink the nourishing broth. She consumed only liquids on that day. Why? Her body needed a break to heal.  Our bodies don’t have to work as hard to put the nutrients to good use since the food is liquid.  Nutrients from juicing reach our bloodstream in about thirty minutes.

A few hours before bedtime, I added a drop of oil of oregano into 16 oz. of water and had her drink that. Oil of oregano is a powerful anti-oxidant. It’s anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, linked to cancer prevention, and is helpful against a variety of ailments including the common cold. I’ve tried a few brands of oil of oregano, the one that I now use is shipped all the way from Greece. It’s the most potent one I’ve used thus far.

How’s my daughter feeling?

The next morning my daughters sore throat had vanished and she wasn’t coughing.

More books on natural healing

This week, besides having a special day planned for my daughter and me, I plan to be doing some reading in my down time. Although I already have a large library of books focused on natural healing, I’ve decided to add a few more to my library and do I’m eagerly awaiting for them to arrive. In addition, I ordered some Kalonji seeds in bulk which I plan to incorporate into my daily intake several times weekly.

Currently, I’m hanging out with my daughter, while Mr. Bentley snores peacefully beside us. I’m a light sleeper, he doesn’t sleep in my or my daughter’s bedroom.

I love this mans energy!

My father, who’s 75, reminds me of him. His outlook is similar in that he thinks that many people are lazy. My father does not look his age, and he’s stays active.

My father also says the same thing. “I see a lot of young guys older than me!” And he’s telling the truth, he can still run circles around young guys half his age, but he stays active. In many ways, I am a lot like my father.  Yes, I can run circles around people half my age,  physically they simply aren’t in shape. Maintaining your physical health has a great impact on your emotional health also. I see many people my age in their down time “vegging out” aka watching television or something else that does not require too much movement. I hate doing nothing. I got to keep my mind and body active.

So happy together; fun in the snow

Today, while it was snowing outside, you could find my daughter and me outside playing in the snow! We were both wearing layers of clothing. I had on three layers of pants and the same amount of shirts, and so did my daughter. We didn’t get cold!

My daughter made snow angels, I watched and took pictures. I didn’t want my loc’s to get wet.

So happy together and I got snowflakes caught in my locs! The knitted owl hat and the checkered cowl my daughter are wearing were knitted by me. I knit my simple ribbed hat also.

She also told me she wanted to make a snow house. We did that. The ‘roof’ was a trash bag that I had cut open. You should have seen her face when I did that. Initially, she did not think it was a great idea, but once I had ‘hammered’ the ‘roof’ down to the sides with sticks, her face brightened and she said, “Mom, that looks really nice!” I smiled at her and said, “You’re the young one, aren’t you supposed to have the overactive imagination?”

Simple things make us happy

Normally she does, but at times I need encourage her to open her mind a bit more… 😉

More snow; round three

You’d think I’d get tired of getting tired of snow, right? But I’m not, they’re calling for more snow tonight. If we get snow, that will make the third night in a row that we’ve received snow. Currently we have about 15″ of snow outside, perhaps a bit more. I’m not counting. We’ll see how much we receive.

Since I knew that snow was in the forecast for this evening, I dropped off the food at our local homeless shelter (one day early)  just to be sure there tomorrow when it’s our church’s turn to prepare the dinner and breakfast and lunch on the following day. Those that sleep at the shelter still need to be fed, right? The homeless shelter depends on the good will of a variety of churches to make sure the guests are fed.

I have not seen this type of weather, in these parts, for quite some time and while I could spend my time whining and complaining about how all the frigid temperatures and snow, events cancelled because of the weather… I’m not! I’m enjoying the difference I’m seeing in the season and realizing that regardless of how cold it may be, I don’t have to worry about shelter each evening, I have enough food to prepare many meals, and much more… I can’t say the same for those who are homeless. But you know what? I’ve interacted with many of them, and several of the ones I’ve talked with have reasons to be thankful.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Lot’s of snow and it’s continuing to fall…

Well, it’s snowing here.

It’s not the first one we’ve had this winter, but it’s definitely the one with the largest accumulation thus far…

A few hours ago it was about 12″ and now we’re past that. Around 3:00 a.m., I tried to talk my daughter into going outside with me to build a snowman but she wasn’t having any of that.

Earlier I took Mr. B outside to do his business, for some reason he wasn’t thrilled about hanging outdoors. In fact, he looked at me like I was crazy!

He did what he had to do and ran back to the porch looking at me walking about taking pictures. Yeah, I’m sure he had a lot of nice things to say to me in his little doggy mind! 😉
