Merry Christmas 2020

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas holiday. It’s been a hectic few months, and now the year is almost over. I for one will be happy for things to slow down a bit. Is that even possible? I truly hope it can happen. Today was a slow day spent at home. It doesn’t even feel like a Friday, it feels more like a Saturday! Does anyone else feel that way?

Another promotion at work

I’ve been in my new position (at work) for the second week, and I must say that I’m enjoying it immensely. I’ve been with the company for one year and 10 months, and this is my second promotion. There’s much to learn, as is typically the case when doing something new and I’m fine with that. I’m reminding myself that I won’t know everything. There are new policies/procedures to add to my skill set, and it goes a lot faster since I’ve never had problems asking questions. It’s just my nature; I like to know how everything works when it comes to anything I do, even if it’s not “relevant” to what I do.

Although I work in an office setting, I’ve been back at work since June. No complaints about that. I must say, that I’m seeing more commuters going back to work. How do I know? Highway 695 is starting to be the royal pain in the rear in the early commute/leaving office. It’s not back to its mind-numbing traffic. There’s always a bright side. I have a beautiful daughter/loving family, employed, my health is great, and I’m enjoying life immensely.

Monday: Returned to work

Yesterday was my first day back at work since March. While I enjoyed my time at home, it’s nice to be back. Currently, my job is planning to bring all employees back to work by the end of next month. With the new guidelines in place, because of the COVID pandemic, offices are still required to practice ‘safe distancing’ within the workplace. Additionally, temperatures are checked shortly after arrival. Anyone who has a high temperature will be sent home. Currently, I’m in a temporary location at a safe distance away from my other officemates.

Do you know what I noticed upon my return to work? A lot of people had gained weight. Not surprising there since many of us were at home and some most likely didn’t do too much while there. I was one of those that had to find ways to stay active. Yard work was definitely helpful and I also invested in an exercise bike since the gym, where I have a membership, was closed.

While going to work, I have noticed that I’m not running into any traffic. Before, I ran into traffic 99% of the time. While I appreciate that the roads aren’t congested, I must say that I’ll be happy when more people return to work since it means the majority of employees are back at work. A few months ago, I told my daughter and parents that I would not be surprised if some businesses allow their employees to continue to work from home.

A new website

About ten minutes ago, I created a new website for my daughter. She’s had a website for several years; however, she thought it was “cringey,” and so when I asked her today whether she wanted to continue with her old site or go another way, she opted to create a new domain. I would have just recreated my content while keeping the same name, but she’s not me.
She’s mainly going to use it as a place to share her drawings. She’s quite talented. Yes, I’m her mom, but I’m also objective and will tell her when I see things that are a bit off. She has received positive feedback from others regarding her work, including her art teacher.

Our lives have been busy; however, I’m hoping that I can start writing more, and I have penned in updating my websites at least every two weeks. After I get back into the flow, I’m hoping to go back to writing at least once weekly.

Work update: Still learning…

Earlier this month, I started my new position within the same company. I must say that I’m enjoying it immensely. I’m much more busier now than I was before (which is hard to imagine since I was busy in my old role also) however, I’m enjoying what I do immensely. More importantly is it’s quiet. I didn’t always have that in my old position, however now, I’m definitely receiving the solitude that I crave. I just completed my third week of training and now I have seven more weeks to complete. While there’s a lot to learn, I do have excellent trainers and I’ve learned a lot.

Today my daughter and I are taking it easy, relaxing and we’re about to play World of Warcraft. It’s not something either of us play a lot, but we do log on now and again to immerse ourselves into an MMORPG.

Job: Transitioning into a new role

Earlier this week, I applied for a position within my company. The position had been open for a few weeks, and they had already interviewed people for the job. I was interviewed by two people, I’ve seen them before, exchanged pleasantries, but was never formally introduced to either of them. I’m thrilled to say that I did receive the position and will be moving into my new role early in September. It does have a later start time, however, I will be able to spend even more time with my daughter, daily, than I already do. God is good.

Adventures in Driving: My daughter’s learning to drive

At times it’s hard to believe that my daughter is learning to drive. It seems like just the other day when she was a toddler and now she’s 16 years old and is learning to drive! I must say that she’s doing well and is a cautious driver which means there haven’t been any white-knuckled incidents for myself. I haven’t taken her into the city yet to drive on narrow streets and she hasn’t been on the highway, however, that will be coming soon. I honestly didn’t think she’d be ready to learn how to drive yet, mainly because (at times) she can get lost in her own little world and occasionally, it’s at the wrong time. Of course, in my mind, I was thinking of that happening while she was driving, but she’s proven me wrong. She stays focused and I’m thrilled with that. So, for the first time, my Prius has a new driver. I did tell her it feels odd sitting in the passenger seat.
