Pinterest has become increasingly popular for many internet users, it gives the user a way to pin items of interest, and can generate additional traffic to the site where the images were found.
However, there are some that aren’t thrilled about this new service. The obvious reason, is the complete disregard (knowingly or unknowingly) that some users go about pinning copyrighted material. Not every site wants their images copied. It’s always a good idea, to read the websites copyright policy before you pin. In doing so, you avoid being sued if a website owner decided to come after you for stealing their original work.
I used Pinterest, briefly, but grew weary of tracking down to make sure what I was repinning wasn’t in violation of the original owners copyright. From my own observation, I’ve seen many users pinning images that weren’t supposed to be copied.
One way to avoid items being pinned, is by implementing a simple code into your header tag.
<meta name=”pinterest” content=”nopin” />
According to Pinterest, if you install the above code to your site a Pinterest user will receive the following message.
This site doesn’t allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting!”
Oh by the way, the meta tag information, can be found in the Pinterest Help section under Linking to your Blog or Website.
Pinterest: How can WordPress users block their images being pinned to Pinterest?
Click on Appearance tab
Click on Editor
Click on Header (header.php)
Insert the code listed below on the line immediately after the <head> tag.
<meta name=”pinterest” content=”nopin” />
WordPress Plugin that blocks Pinterest users from copying my images
Users that don’t want to mess around with their themes, can always install the NoPin WordPress Plugin created by Shawn Hooper. It can also be found on the WordPress Addon site; NoPin WordPress Plugin.
Will it stop all pins? I’m sure someone might find a way around it, but it will decrease some of it. Additionally, it’s a good idea to watermark all your copyrighted photos.
Towards the end of last year, I set up part of my bedroom as a crafting area. The only thing I’m doing in there is sleeping, might as well make room for some extra activity. Regardless of how awesome the idea was my crafting area is getting cluttered.
The past few weeks, I’ve been procrastinating on cleaning up the clutter, but I’ll be getting that part of the room organized today.
Decluttering
Additional shelving has been purchased and some storage bins to store loose yarn.
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Stephen King’s heart-stoppingly dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination…
Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely impossible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jack’s life—a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.
A tribute to a simpler era and a devastating exercise in escalating suspense, 11/22/63 is Stephen King at his epic best.
I decluttered my bedroom almost two years ago, and so I guess it’s time for a slight bedroom makeover. Stephen King’s newest book will serve as the perfect audio companion, while I get my crafting haven in order.
This year, Lenten began on February 22, 2012 and ends on April 7, 2012.
Our Lutheran church is offering two services (morning and evening) to accommodate church members schedules. Before the service a simple meal of soup, salad, and bread were served. The church members provided the food, and the New members class (from February) served it.
The highlight of the dinner, was a delicious potato chowder soup. I was able to get some of it, since a few of us that served the food wisely ate before we served to the church members. That was smart idea on our part, since that soup didn’t last long. The chowder was made by one of the church’s schools lunch ladies.
You know I’m going to be begging her for that recipe! There were numerous other soups served; bean and ham, spicy chicken, crab soup, chicken and noodle, etc., There were a few others that I cannot remember. I was served the potato chowder and the bean and ham.
Silly me, I forgot to take pictures of the meal preparation — along with serving the food, but I’ll rectify that next time.
Service immediately followed the dinner. My daughter read the scripture reading.
II Timothy 3: 16 -17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
What is Lenten?
Lenten refers to Lent, the meals served during this time are usually meager. Lenten starts 40 days before prior to Easter. The Lutheran church I’m attending now is the first one that openly recognized this ‘spiritual holiday’ so although acquainted with the practice actively participating in the tradition is new to myself.
I’ve been enjoying researching the lenten tradition, as well as learning even more about Lutherans. Actually, I did a ton of research before joining this church since it was important to me, to find a church that preached a good message, and not something ‘flowery’ to make people feel good.
For myself, researching Christianity has always fascinated me, and so I’m enjoying the time I’ve been spending learning even more about Lutheran history.
Is it almost March already? What happened to February? It seems as if I blinked and the entire month just flew by.
At times, I find it challenging to maintain this site. That happens, when my life gets busy. I’ll think about writing something, and when it next pops into my mind a few days (or even weeks) has slipped away.
I won’t overextend myself
Over the years I’ve learned not to take on more than I can handle. It applies to many aspects of my life; work, volunteering, social engagements, etc., It wasn’t an easy lesson to learn, since it’s my nature to always want to assist in any way that I can. Sure, I accomplished the assignments, but it didn’t leave a lot of time for myself. Having my daughter changed that, since she trumps everything.
Helping others is something I do with my ‘down time’. It’s one of the ways I relax. It feels great helping others. Assisting someone who desperately needs help is the only reward that I need to receive. It feels great.
New position; Board Member
Earlier this month, I accepted a board member position. It’s a two year position, and It doesn’t take effect until July 2012, however I attended my first meeting yesterday. I was introduced, and got a chance to get a first hand view of the people I’ll be interacting with. I’m looking forward to the opportunity. What’s even better? I wasn’t a bored member at that meeting. Ok, that was corny….
Volunteering; Food Pantry
This past Saturday, my daughter and I visited one of the numerous ministries available at our Lutheran Church. Our church has a food pantry. Thursdays and Saturdays, the food pantry is open, and those in need are able to stop by and receive groceries. I had a great time interacting with the church members, who serve as volunteers. I also had a great time, talking with those who came to receive food. A few of them expressed interest in our church, and mentioned they would be interested in attending our church service. I was able to give them literature.
Attending our church is not a requirement to receive food, and we don’t ‘actively sell’ the church when we’re talk with those within the surrounding communities that utilize some of our programs. Guess what? We don’t need to do that, the way our members treats everyone speak volumes. Treat others how you want to be treated, simple but effective. Regardless of your race, socioeconomic background, or past… you are made to feel welcome.
Crochet
I’m still managing to fit crochet into my schedule, currently I’m crocheting bear number three for the Mother Bear Project. I’ll have to post pictures soon.

Although not a fan of romance type movies, I did enjoy watching Bright Star, admittedly the fascination had a lot to do with John Keats. I’ve been a fan of his since I read a book of poetry (I believe it was titled) Keats and Shelly (cover to cover) at eight years of age.
My father collected old books, and had an outstanding collection of books from the 1800s, and earlier, amongst those books was poetry by John Keats. I inherited an old copy of Shakespeare’s works (from my dad) , that even includes Shakespeare’s will — but that’s another story.
Also I was blown away by the costuming in the film. I’ve done my share of clothing design, and was especially impressed by the crochet designs of Sophie Digard, so beautiful!
John Keats was young when he passed away — twenty five if I remember correctly (from tuberculosis) a death sentence in those times. The movie largely focuses on the romance between him and Fanny Brawne. It’s a beautiful tale of romance, and I enjoyed it immensely.
But please know this Mr. Keats… in your correspondence with Fanny Brawne, when you wrote…
“I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but three summer days – three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.”
Sorry babe that sounds like a cop-out to me, plan to spend the rest of your life ‘filling me with delights’. Three days, please you must be joking! You’d be getting off way too easily! I don’t think so! 😉
The past few weeks have been extremely busy, thankfully things are starting to slow down for myself, and so I’ll be posting a bit more. Last week, my daughter and I went to a local wheelchair basketball game. The team is called the Baltimore Ravens, they’ve been around longer than the NFL football, Baltimore Ravens, that shares the same name. The Baltimore Ravens are in gold.
I’d met the executive director of the Maryland Ravens, Edward Diggs, a week before, and had a chance to chat with him, in length, about this nonprofit organization. This nonprofit organization was created in the 1970’s. My daughter and I had a lot of fun at the basketball game, and we’re hoping to attend a few more before the season is over.
What a great message they’re sending.. abilities despite disabilities!
Whoa… the time is flying by! It’s so busy in the real world that I’ve been scrambling to find time to do something as simple as sit down and compose a post to my website. Sadly my personal websites have been suffering, however I’m still maintaining my business sites.
This week was busy meeting up with colleague I hadn’t seen in a long time. His reply upon seeing me, Opal, you haven’t changed in twelve years! I guess he’s right… outside of the fact that I now wear dreadlocks, not too much about me is different.
What’s been keeping me busy? As a stay at home tech writer, my plate stays full. Additionally I have a few business websites that I maintain. This past Sunday, I did more volunteered at the homeless shelter, and I’ve been crocheting more amigurumi. Additionally, I’ve been introduced to a few more volunteer opportunities, and I’m trying to see how I can fit one local wheelchair non-profit organization into my schedule. I’m unsure when life will settle down, the winter is usually one of my busiest seasons.
A friend, took the above photo of my daughter this past August. I remember this photo, I was tired but wanted to see her that day. I met her a few years ago at the local gym where I work out. She’s 84 and works out daily. What an inspiration, right? My daughter and I stopped by and visited her today. Her husband died twenty years ago, but fortunately she still her daughter and family are close by, and she’s loved by many friends.
I’ve decided to include one of my favorite videos by Buju Banton (along with the lyrics). I love the rhythm, and the pictures shown in the video.Throughout my years volunteering, I’ve encountered many in similar situations that are mentioned in these lyrics. I

While I’m living Thanks I’ll be giving To the most high, you know
I am living while I’m living to the father I will pray Only he knows how we get through every day With all the hike in the price, arm and leg we have to pay While our leaders play
All I see is people ripping and robbing and grabbing Thief never love to see a thief with a long bag No love for the people who are suffering real bad Another toll to the poll may God help we soul
What is to stop the youths from getting out of control Filled up with education yet don’t own a payroll The clothes on my back has countless eye holes Could go on and on and full has never been told
I am living while I’m living to the father I will pray Only he knows how we get through every day With all the hike in the price, arm and leg we have to pay While our leaders play
I say who can afford to run will run But what about those who can’t, they will have to stay Opportunity is a scarce commodity In these times I say, when mama spend her last to send you to class Never you ever play
It’s a competitive world for low budget people Spending a dime while earning a nickel With no regards for who it may tickle My cup is full to the brim I could go on and on and full has never been told
Through this life keep getting me down Don’t give up now Got to survive some way some how I could go on and on and full has never been told
