Buju Banton & Wayne Wonder: Bonafide Love

In the early 1990’s a Triniadian/Haitian man I was dating turned me on to Buju, the first video below was definitely my favorite from the CD. I loved the beat so I snapped up the CD that was available at the time. It was a wonderful surprise to learn that there were many other songs I enjoyed on the CD, great purchase!

I loved his voice and well… he has dreadlocks just like me. My dreadlocks are halfway down my back now. Last I heard Buju was in jail on drug and gun charges. If I remember correctly, it was a 10 year sentence. He claims he’s innocent.

I listed my two favorite songs by him below…

Buju Banton: Untold Stories

While I’m Living
Thanks I’ll Be Giving
To the Most High You know,

[Chorus:]
I am living while I am living to the father I will pray
Only him knows how we get through everyday
With all the hike in the price
Arm and leg we have to pay
While our leaders play

[Verse 1:]
All I see people a rip and a rob and a rival
Tief never love fe see tief wid long bag
No love for the people who a sufferin bad
Another toll to the poll may God help we soul
What is to stop the youths from get out of control
Full up of education yet no on no payroll
The clothes on my back have countless eyehole.
I could go on and on the fool has never been thrown.

[Chorus]

[Verse 2:]
Who can afford to run will run
But what about those who can’t… they will have to stay
Opportunity a scarce, scarce commodity
In these times I say… When mama spend her last and send you go class
Never you ever play
It’s a competitive world for low budget people,
Spending a dime while earning a nickel
With no regards to who it may tickle
My cup is full to the brim
I could go on and on the full has never been told

[Chorus]

[Verse 3:]
All I see people a rip and a rob and a rival
Tief never love fe see tief wid long bag
No love for the people who a sufferin bad
Another toll to the poll may God help we soul
What is to stop the youths from get out of control
Full up of education yet no on no payroll
The clothes on my back have countless eyehole
Could go on and on and the fool has never been thrown.
(On and On)
Though this life keep getting me down
Don’t give up now
Got to survive somehow
Could go on and on and the full has never been told

[Chorus]

[Verse 4:]
Who can afford to run will run
But what about those who can’t… they will have to stay
Opportunity a scarce, scarce commodity
In these times I say… When mama spend her last and send you go class
Never you ever play
It’s a competitive world for low budget people,
Spending a dime while earning a nickel
With no regards to who it may tickle
My cup is full to the brim
I could go on and on the full has never been told

I could go on and on the full has never been told
I could go on and on the full has never been told
I could go on and on…
The full has never…

Been…
Toooooold.

Choices: Things that make you go hmmm…

Ever notice how some people will immediately stop eating something healthy based on research by various organizations but still continue to eat food that is obviously unhealthy for them? With people I know really well, I’ll usually point it out in a joking way of course. Often times, they’ll admit the hypocrisy but continue to eat unhealthy foods while shunning the healthy food that is supposedly bad for them. But besides initially pointing out the glaring inconsistencies, I leave it alone because ultimately it’s their choice, you know?

Juice only update – Day 9

I awoke feeling great. Shortly I’ll be juicing some dark leafy greens. To that, I’ll add celery, cucumber, lemons, lime, garlic, ginger and some type of hot pepper. This is one of my favorite drinks. No it’s not sweet and I didn’t like it when I started making it years ago, but I love it now!

Kansas: Dust in the Wind

I’ve always loved this song!

Kansas: Dust in the Wind
(Lyrics)
I close my eyes
Only for a moment and the moment’s gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes with curiosity

Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind

Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

(Aa aa aa)
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Oh, ho, ho

Now don’t hang on
Nothin’ lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won’t another minute buy

Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
(All we are is dust in the wind)

Dust in the wind
(Everything is dust in the wind)
Everything is dust in the wind
(In the wind)

(Ooo)
(Ooo)
(Ooo)

Deep Forest: Marta’s Song

Marta’s Song, is my favorite song from the CD Deep Forest…

This song was playing when I walked into a New Age store, Touch the Earth, in the late 1990’s. I remember asking Darren, staff on duty, the name of the CD. I purchased the CD that day.

I have great memories of that store and I credit them for introducing me to aromatherapy. The staff was always helpful and extremely knowledgeable about aromatherapy and a variety of other alternative remedies.

Good news, the juice cleanse is going very well. Yesterday evening, around 7:00 p.m., I was hit with a wave of tiredness but that didn’t last too long. Soon afterwards, I juiced and drank my last juice for the evening and I felt much better.

This morning, I awoke with more energy than I normally. I must say that is very impressive since dogs within the neighborhood were barking around 1:30 a.m.  Unfortunately, this triggered Bentley (our Shih Tzu)  to start barking. Since I’m a light sleeper naturally that awakened me and I was up for about two hours before the neighbor dog finally shut up.

Where my girls at?

l always liked the beat of this song, not necessarily the words.

Also, I love the the fitted tube dress that the one lady is wearing. I had a similar one in gold earth tones, but it didn’t have the fluffy stuff at the arms or neckline. That fluffy stuff is the only part of the featured dress that I didn’t like.

It’s been a busy week even more so since my nephew has been with us since last Friday. He leaves tomorrow. It really hadn’t given me a chance to respond to comments here or the few places I comment elsewhere, but things will (hopefully) calm down towards the end of this weekend.

Today, after work, I’m taking my daughter and nephew bowling! They both enjoy it a lot. My dad is coming along too.

The Sound of Silence…

I really love this song by Simon & Garfunkel.

The Sound Of Silence by Simon & Garfunkle

Hello darkness, my old friend, I’ve come with talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping, left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain, still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone, narrow streets of cobblestone
Neath the halo of a streetlamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light, split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw, ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared, and no one dared
To stir the sound of silence

Fool, said I, you do not know, silence, like a cancer, grows
Hear my words and I might teach you, take my arms then I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell, and echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they’d made
And the sign flashed its warning in the words that it was forming
And the sign said the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls, and whispered in the sounds of silence

I received an award; Hang a Star on That One

It appears that I’ve received an award…

hang-a-star-award
From Curls & Q….

The awesome thing about this award, is there really aren’t too many “rules.” I tend to deviate from them anyway…

The rules are simple:

  1. The person receiving the award is someone who has “made” you spend money. It could be that you bought a pattern, a book, a magazine, a item, a yarn, a fiber, etc.; or joined a KAL, or signed up for a class on Craftsy, etc. Remember, this is in good natured fun. A positive expenditure. Explain to the person what they “made”, “enabled”, or “tempted” you to purchase.
  2. You may give the award to as many or as few people as you like. We hate it went we’ve been given a set number to dole out an award to.
  3. Copy and past the blog award on your blog. Display it with pride. Remember that “Imitation is the best form of flattery. I’m out here totally imitating you!
  4. Let them know they have been chosen by leaving a comment at their blog.
  5. Thank the award presenter

Again, I cannot stress enough that this is all in fun. I have been so enamored with everything I’ve spent my $$$ on due to blogger recommendations, it has enriched my life. I hope you feel that way too.

Here’s what Q wrote about me…

Opal from Celebrate Life! Everytime I use my Hiya Hiya needles I think of Opal. I LOVE the needles and needed them as I need another hole in my head. They are just so darn sweet to knit with. Because of her bee adventures I keep buying honey. Now, I’m the only one that uses honey at this home, so what the heck? Who really needs six jars of honey?

I’m a bit slow on posting about it here, but it’s not because I’m slacking. I have a post in draft mode, but my issue is I have so many awesome things to write about those who’ve inspired me to purchase or try a technique that one post devoted to those people would be much too long. Take for example my recent post about stir fried ramen noodles with garlic curried chicken, my inspiration came from  suituapui.

So instead, I’ll be dedicating a post to each individual that has been an inspiration. Stay tuned…
