Juicing adventures: First day of juicing

Today is the first day of drinking mainly freshly prepared juices.

Produce for juicing_2

About an hour ago, I juiced all these fruits and vegetables that you see above, in my Green Star juicer. As with any juice cleanse or water fast I embark upon, I go into it with the right attitude. So you won’t hear me saying that I can’t achieve ______. I can’t is not in my vocabulary. As a child, my parents corrected me the few times I said, “I can’t do ____” and so I learned to turn an “I can’t” into an “I can!” If you think about it, that’s having a self defeatist attitude  and frankly quite lazy… and I am neither!  If you say you can’t do something, well you’re well on your way to accomplishing that, change your attitude.

Although a bit tired today, which has everything to do with Gracie (our lionhead rabbit) wanting to play well after bed time, I felt a nice jolt of energy about ten minutes after consuming the juice blend and that felt great.

What’s in this juice?

  • Carrots
  • Kale
  • Green apple
  • Celery
  • Garlic

I’d planned on adding ginger and lemon, but decided to hold off for another juice blend.

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead

Another great documentary about one mans journey to improving his health by consuming freshly made juices.

You don’t  have to be overweight to be unhealthy though… If a person continues to make improper food choices the chances are much higher that their health will be compromised. Since I know that, it makes it easy for me to forgo meals processed/prepackaged meals.

I find documentaries like this to be extremely inspirational. It’s always nice to see people making positive changes in their eating habits.

Juicing Out Obesity

Joe Cross was just an average man with a huge problem. He was obese. As the doctors could no longer help him and with an urge to be completely off of all his medicines, he decided to create his own diet plan – before losing his life.

Joe considered his options and he set off for a trek of 3,000 miles – carrying only a generator and a juicer. His goal was to be on the road for sixty days; through rain and sun; consuming nothing but juice. His triumph, in the end, was a massive loss – of weight, that is. His loss is our gain as he had the entire journey filmed for an audience to later partake of.

Cleansing adventures: Easing into juicing

This week, I’ll start drinking most of my meals.

I must say, that I’m actually looking forward to taking a break from solid foods. I consume liquid only meals throughout the year. I would say the results are definitely worth it. At my last eye appointment my eye doctor kept commenting on my eye health. I’d thought that my eyes had improved, and the appointment confirmed that.

I have a Green Star juicer which receives a lot of attention. It’s a workhorse and blasts through whatever I toss into its chute. I’ve had it for over eight years and use it often.

A few moments ago, I stumbled upon the above movie and so I thought I’d share it here. Enjoy!

Crafty cravings…

knit all the yarnsThe past few weeks I’ve been wanting to  knit and sew, but unfortunately I really haven’t had a chance to do too much besides about thirty minutes of knitting within the last month or so.

Today, I had that opportunity… I had a chance to knit for about two hours while my daughter and nephew played. It’s a simple project, a hat. The yarn used is a washable wool and the color is dusty rose with silver thread running though the yarn. It most likely will be a hat for my daughter since she loves that color.

I must say, knitting,  was the perfect way to help me pass the time after playing with my daughter and nephew for several hours outside. I was able to start the hat while I watched them ride their bikes. I didn’t have time to take pictures, but hopefully I’ll get a chance to do that tomorrow.

There are a few (quick) sewing projects I’d love to create for my daughter, after we return from our Lutheran church tomorrow, but I’m unsure if I’ll have the time. Tomorrow will be another busy day, but hopefully I’ll be able to do some sewing. Over the past several weeks, my sewing machines have been begging me to get creative with them, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to do anything. Hopefully that will change soon.

Cleansing update: Candida update; better out than in…

The past few days have been a bit uncomfortable.

I mentioned earlier that most of my candida symptoms had  been eliminated. And while the symptoms seemed to be gone, I didn’t think I was candida free.

Well… a few days ago, some of the symptoms I experienced while  candida was very active resurfaced.  Itching and stomach bloating was the main ones I experienced. I’ve heard this being described as “Candida die-off.” Which basically is when many candida cells are destroyed in a short period of time.

I wasn’t too concerned since this is one of the many list of symptoms that can occur as the candida is being eliminated. As you can see (from the list I’ve included below) there are other symptoms one might experience also.

Candida die off symptoms

  • Bloating, gas, constipation or diarrhea
  • Chills, cold feeling in your extremities
  • Elevated heart rate
  • Headache, fatigue, dizziness
  • Increased joint or muscle pain
  • Nausea
  • Swollen glands

Lovely right?

shrek better out than in

What’s interesting is some of the candida die-off symptoms are exactly what you experience when candida is out of control. When I inspected what came out, I saw a lot of what looked like candida. That’s another reason I like enemas. It eliminates the yeast as quickly as your body releases it into your colon. Even for a skeptic such as myself that made sense. The few times I’ve been nauseous, I felt much better after vomiting since the bad stuff came out.  Better out than in, right? After the enema the itching and bloating went away until more were released into the colon near my bedtime. Another enema eliminated those symptoms. That’s even better.

I increased my enemas to twice daily until the itching stopped. I’m imagining the candida die-off symptoms were brought on by the combination of garlic enemas and apple cider vinegar enemas I’ve been using. I imagine I’ll have additional die off symptoms, when that happens I’ll just use enemas to flush the candida out of my colon.

Candida feedback from others

Over the past several weeks, I’ve received a few emails from others who suffered from candida. They both thought enemas were a bit out there, but after reading what I wrote about them they decided to try them out. And just like myself, the itching and bloating they experienced has subsided.  It’s always nice to hear feedback from others and it’s nice that they ‘re open to trying methods that aren’t commonly practiced here in the United States.

Where my girls at?

l always liked the beat of this song, not necessarily the words.

Also, I love the the fitted tube dress that the one lady is wearing. I had a similar one in gold earth tones, but it didn’t have the fluffy stuff at the arms or neckline. That fluffy stuff is the only part of the featured dress that I didn’t like.

It’s been a busy week even more so since my nephew has been with us since last Friday. He leaves tomorrow. It really hadn’t given me a chance to respond to comments here or the few places I comment elsewhere, but things will (hopefully) calm down towards the end of this weekend.

Today, after work, I’m taking my daughter and nephew bowling! They both enjoy it a lot. My dad is coming along too.

Cooking Adventures: Veggie Fried Rice; craving satisfied…

The past few days I’ve been craving vegetable fried rice and so yesterday I made some.

Mortar and Pestle: Cumin, cardamom and coriander
Mortar and Pestle: Cumin, cardamom and coriander

I pulled out my mortar and pestle. In the mortar I ground cardamom, cumin, black pepper, and sea salt. I put that in a dish and then ground up some garlic and ginger.

Peppers and Okra
Okra and peppers freshly picked from our garden

I grabbed peppers and okra that were picked from the garden, chopped them up and set them aside. Squash, which also came from the garden, was chopped up and set aside.

sauteed squash, onion, ginger and garlic
Sauteed pumpkin, garlic and onion

The onions, garlic, and ginger were added to my wok. I stirred until the onions were clear. I then added squash. After a few minutes I added brown rice, which had been cooked in my small Presto 8 qt. pressure cooker. The rice turned out fluffy and separated. Perfect steamed rice! I cooked everything for a few minutes.

I then pushed the food to the side of the wok and added egg to the wok. One of the many things I like about a wok is you can have many things going on at the same time.   I didn’t use to add egg this way, but months ago tried it out after learning about the tip from Suituapui. Thanks Arthur!

This might not look like a lot of food, but it actually is, the wok is huge and has been in my possession for over twenty years. I used it when I was in college.

A few minutes more and the dish was done. The last two minutes or so, I added mushrooms and carrots to the wok. I hate mushy carrots and mushrooms. How was the vegetable fried rice? I would say this turned out really nice and flavorful. My daughter and nephew had two helpings, there wasn’t too much left for me to sample. 😉

I still have a few more dishes to share but that will have to wait until another day. About an hour ago, I made “pulled” chicken in my small pressure cooker. I set the chicken breasts in a steamer basket and added three cups of liquid so I could make a nice chicken stock.
