Furbaby Adventures: Female Rabbit Bonding; Snuggle time

Since I first wrote my initial post about female rabbit bonding, Gracie and Oreo have had spending time together daily.

We place them close together and hold them. Oreo, our spayed rabbit, is the one that can get aggressive, but thus far she’s doing well. My main goal is to make Oreo not feel intimidated by Gracie. Hopefully there won’t be any more rabbit attacks.

As mentioned in earlier posts. We received Oreo, our Netherland dwarf rabbit, from the Humane Society of Harford County. Although a very sweet bunny, it was obvious that she wasn’t around other animals too much and would occasionally become territorial around certain of our pets; Angel and Gracie.

After Gracie’s stitches were removed, I thought that it might be time to do limited bonding since Oreo’s temperament, around our other pets, has mellowed.

And yesterday, for the first time, Oreo turned around and sniffed Gracie. Which was great.  Too bad we didn’t get a picture of that.

Gracie, our lionhead rabbit, has been turning around to get a better look at Oreo since we started the bonding sessions. I’m still cautious which is why you’ll see my hands petting them to keep them calm. It also means I can quickly separate them if things get out of hand.

They seem to enjoy these bonding sessions and I’m at the point now where I don’t have to hold them constantly. They seem to accept each other scent. Hopefully I’ll get shots of that sometime this week. They are fine just sitting by each other, wiggling their noses contentedly.

Cooking adventures: My daughter’s veggie sub; vegetarian

My daughter loves kale!

She loves to eat it raw (after it’s been washed), lightly steamed, or cooked.

Saturday, the day before we made our  homemade pizza, I decided to make a vegetable salad with kale being the main ingredient. She was thrilled. I chopped up some vegetables; carrots, tomatoes, onions, garlic and sweet red peppers. All the produce (with the exception of the carrots) came from our garden.

My daughter took this picture, she was proud of her veggie sub. Next time I’ll tell her to turn the open side towards the camera so people can see everything that’s included in the sub.

I put the vegetable salad into a glass storage container and put it in the refrigerator. I thought it would be perfect for a salad, snack or sandwich fixings. My daughter promptly made the above veggie sandwich. She took a picture and asked me to put it on my website. I promised her I would. Next time, I’ll tell her to open the sub or at least turn the sub so people can see all the veggies crammed between the sandwich bread.

Cooking Adventures: Homemade Pizza & Bonding

Mommy, I want to make pizza this weekend. Can we do that? There are a few ingredients I need to purchase but after that we’ll be ready. I’ll let you do most of the pizza making this time, ok? Thanks mom!

You can start by kneading the dough! Yeah, I get to knead the dough.

We’ll have to let the dough rise before it’s rolled. This will be a perfect time for you to take a nap. Awww, Mom!

Let me demonstrate how to make the crust, then you can take over.

What do you want to put on the pizza? Is this enough cheese? Mom, you know I like a lot of cheese.

Homemade Pizza_3Is this better?

Mom, don’t forget to smother the cheese in the yummy tomato sauce we made.

Thanks mom for helping me make the pizza.  It’s delicious.

I must say, that making pizza, was a delightful way to bond with my daughter before she went back to school today.

Adventures in Cleansing: What types of enema should I purchase?

Another great video by April Goodwin on the type of enemas to use.

The type of enema I use is a 4 qt. enema bag. I mainly chose this style because it’s extremely portable.  I can easily fold it up and tuck it away for the next use.  After an enema, it’s sterilized and tucked away until the next time it’s needed.

The store bought solutions are something you should avoid. Here in the United States it’s typically the Fleet type enemas. Not only are they (usually) chemical based they don’t hold a lot of solution.  As Lori mentioned you can find the enema bag at Walgreens, Wal Mart, Target and a variety of other stores. I purchased my enema bag from Amazon, because of it’s size (4qt.) you don’t typically see these in your regular department stores. Knowing this I took my search online so I could purchase something larger than 2qt.  I don’t always use 4 qts with my enemas, but it’s there if I do want to make a larger enema solution.

I guess one slight annoyance for myself, is that some people assume that those who use enemas do it for sexual reasons and that’s not the case with me or many others that use them.  But that’s not something I dwell on, you know? Enemas are something that I was introduced to as a young child. Seeing the  amazing benefits, from a health standpoint, naturally I kept using them as an adult.

More recently, I saw the amazing benefits that enemas had with candida overgrowth. I was thrilled with how successful it was in that area. Not only is it used for people like myself who just need it for general maintenance or one of my  occasional flare-ups (candida), some people battling serious diseases like cancer, have successfully healed themselves by using ‘Gerson Therapy’ which involved daily enemas and other treatments to heal themselves of cancer.

Bonding time: Last day before school

Well today is the last day of my daughter’s summer vacation. I’ll definitely miss just picking up and doing whatever we wanted after work was finished. Now that she’s back in school, she’ll be on a schedule. With her, she’s still learning on her summer breaks, since I give her interesting projects to do while she’s away from school. And while she views the projects as ‘fun and exciting’ they are also educational also.  Currently her favorite subjects are Writing, Science and Math. Although she does well in all subjects, made honor roll each quarter, the subjects I mentioned are the ones she likes the most.

Today, we did what she wanted to do…

So we played with all the furbabies and then we played with her Monster High dolls…

Of course this meant making homemade vegetarian pizza, complete with a freshly made pizza crust. The tomatoes came from our garden and I made sure I added ‘extra cheese’ just the way she likes her pizzas to be. We both took lots of pictures of the pizza making process, so we’ll be sure to upload and post pictures soon.

Then we got on Skype and chatted with her cousin (my nephew.) Since it was pretty much their conversation with me chiming in when ‘mom’ or ‘aunty Opal’ was called, I responded to email, tossed a few tidbits up on Facebook, and played a bit of World of Warcraft. 😉

All too soon her day had ended and after the daily Bible reading, I found myself reading several pages from R.L. Stine’s Goosebump series.

We had a great time making food and just hanging out together and now the day is over.

Furbaby adventures: Giving Gracie, our lionhead rabbit, her medication

A few days ago… I took this picture of Gracie. Which would explain why she has stitches in the picture below. This morning, her stitches were removed.

As you can see, Gracie really doesn’t mind taking this medication. I’m guessing it tastes great. Yesterday, marked the last day that she has to take this medicine. She has two more (out of the four original medications) to take. Tomorrow is the last day for the nasty medication she doesn’t like, and Monday, she’ll receive her last penicillin shot.

I must say she’s been a great patient and hasn’t even flinched at taking the needle.

Furbaby adventures: Stitches removed and female rabbit bonding

Gracie got her stitches removed today! Isn’t that wonderful?

We arrived at Chadwell’s Animal Hospital at 8:00 a.m. That’s the time they opened. We were the second customer there. Both of us waited for a bit. The first customer had a very distraught kitty and then there was our Gracie who seemed fine.

About twenty minutes later we were seen and off Gracie went to get her stitches removed. Upon her return, about five minutes later, the vet technician confirmed what we already knew… she’s healing nicely from her laceration surgery! The tech that removed the stitches reminded us not to pull on the scab that was remaining. Well… that’s obviously not the thing to do, but I understand that they do have to state the obvious to protect themselves.  So I just smiled and told her that wasn’t going to happen.

Female rabbit bonding

After the rabbit gone wild fiasco aka rabbit bonding gone bad, I didn’t think I’d try to reintroduce bonding to them this early, but a few hours after we arrived home, we decided to put the rabbits close to each other.

And even though  some advise to do this  after both are spayed, I decided to check it out. Oreo, our spayed bunny, is the aggressive one but as she’s come out of her shell, her antisocial tendencies (occasional growling and bunny swatting with her paws) has disappeared. So, I put them together to see what would happen. They were about two feet away from each other and they did fine. I was holding Oreo and my daughter held Gracie.

While we didn’t get pictures of that interaction, we did take pictures a few moments ago. This time they were touching and they did fine! We were petting them both the entire time. Well my daughter stopped to take the pictures. I still don’t trust them down on the floor together. But we’re in no rush…

But it’s nice that we can (hopefully) have them both out (as long as we’re holding them) together! We’ll take baby steps with these two,  but since they are doing fine, we’ll keep having sessions like this and have floor sessions after Gracie has been spayed. She’ll be spayed this October.
