Cleansing adventures: Thinking of water fasting

The past few days I’ve been thinking about doing a water fast…

And while some will recommend prepping yourself by setting aside days to ‘eat healthy’ before going on a water fast. Well, there’s really no reason for me to wait, since the only things I mainly consume is whole foods.

I’ve done a few water fasts. I don’t do them for weight loss. I’m not overweight. I have found that liquid fasts have been a nice way to give the digestive system a break and in some cases, they’ve been very effective at healing minor ailments. I’ve also read accounts of them used to heal major issues.

Of course I’m including one of April Goodwin’s videos. She’s very informative and I love her energy.

I’m also including one of lifegenerators videos, not necessarily for his talk about water fasting. I just really enjoy hearing him talk about how he deals with negativity. I agree with him, negativity directed at you can be a chance to grow. I also agree, that at times, we can bring a lot of negativity on us.

Will I be doing enemas while water fasting? You better believe it! Most likely my enema of choice will be a simple water enema. I will add a few teaspoons of sea salt to ensure that my body’s electrolyte balance stays normal.

I’ve done water fasts before, I remember a few times some the third or fourth day wasn’t so great, but afterwards it was smooth sailing.  I now wonder if some of the discomfort I felt could have been eliminated if I’d included enemas into my fasting routine. Enemas would have definitely added my body in flushing out the toxic waste that my body was dumping as I gave my digestive system a break. It’ll be interesting to see if the first few days will be different since I’d be adding enemas. We’ll see…

Will I start a water fast within a few days? Oh, I might… physically I’m definitely ready, I just have to make sure I’m prepared mentally.

Where does your food come from?

Where does my food come from? The majority of it’s grown in our acre garden. Yes, I’m truly blessed.

Anyone that knows me, or checks out the foods I write about online
knows that I mainly eat whole foods. I try to eat as close to a foods natural source as possible.

In many ways it would be much easier for me not to do this, but I figure a few extra minutes is worth the effort. When I watch the video, I don’t view this as ‘progress.’

For the record, I’m definitely not against animal consumption but I do think the level it’s done today is unnatural. I say the same thing about vegetables and fruit. Don’t even get me started on the empty calorie food items that are passed off as ‘food.’ But you know what, for those who want to eat that way, that’s there choice.

I must say that I’m fortunate that I do have the ability to purchase animal products from small local farms.

Our House…

I’ve always loved this song…

It’s been a busy week for my daughter and me. Monday, school began. She’s now in fifth grade! If we’re friends on Facebook you’ve seen the picture I shared of my daughter’s first day of school. Wow, the time has flown by. It seems like just the other day when I was holding her in my arms.

We’re both looking forward to this weekend. My brother, Sister in Law and nephew will be in town. They’ll be leaving and my nephew will be with us for a few days.

Our House by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

I’ll light the fire, you put the flowers in the vase that you bought today.
Staring at the fire for hours and hours while I listen to you
Play your love songs all night long for me, only for me.

Come to me now and rest your head for just five minutes, everything is good.
Such a cozy room, the windows are illuminated by the
Sunshine through them, fiery gems for you, only for you.

Our house is a very, very fine house with two cats in the yard, life used to be so hard,
Now everything is easy cause of you and our la, la, la:

Cleansing Adventures: Coffee enema

Freshy ground coffee beans for enema

I’m not a coffee drinker…

But I regularly use coffee enemas.

I’ve found the benefits from them to be well worth the coffee bean purchase.

I do like natural remedies, but like anything else, I’ll research (and in some cases) try them out before making a decision. I don’t blindly believe something works, just because it’s ‘natural’.

But coffee enemas had some validity since it’s been used in Gerson therapy as an alternative way to treat cancer since the 1920’s.

Some of the health claims for coffee enemas are…

  • Aids in eliminating toxins from the liver. This seems to be valid, since endoscopic studies do show that coffee enemas does increase bile output.
  • Aids in healing the colon and stimulating peristalsis.

The “aids in healing the colon” really caught my attention since I had suffered chronic constipation ever since my appendices ruptured (and was removed) in 1992. After the surgery (even while eating a high fiber diet) it wasn’t uncommon for me to go weeks without having a bowel movement. That definitely wasn’t normal!

I tried herbal laxatives but those weren’t always effective for chronic constipation relief. Also, I had to take way more than the recommended dose to get my bowels to move. If the recommended dose was two I would be taking at least six.  You want to know something?  Within a few weeks after introducing coffee enemas into my natural health routine, I started having normal bowel movements. I don’t take them as often as when I was trying to get my digestive system back on track but just like the garlic enemas,  I take them a few times each month.

I included the above video done by April Goodwin of  I Keep Smiling. I love this women’s positive outlook on life.

Furbaby Adventures: Female Rabbit Bonding; Snuggle time

Since I first wrote my initial post about female rabbit bonding, Gracie and Oreo have had spending time together daily.
Female rabbit bonding_1

We place them close together and hold them. Oreo, our spayed rabbit, is the one that can get aggressive, but thus far she’s doing well. My main goal is to make Oreo not feel intimidated by Gracie. Hopefully there won’t be any more rabbit attacks.

As mentioned in earlier posts. We received Oreo, our Netherland dwarf rabbit, from the Humane Society of Harford County. Although a very sweet bunny, it was obvious that she wasn’t around other animals too much and would occasionally become territorial around certain of our pets; Angel and Gracie.

After Gracie’s stitches were removed, I thought that it might be time to do limited bonding since Oreo’s temperament, around our other pets, has mellowed.

And yesterday, for the first time, Oreo turned around and sniffed Gracie. Which was great.  Too bad we didn’t get a picture of that.

Gracie, our lionhead rabbit, has been turning around to get a better look at Oreo since we started the bonding sessions. I’m still cautious which is why you’ll see my hands petting them to keep them calm. It also means I can quickly separate them if things get out of hand.

They seem to enjoy these bonding sessions and I’m at the point now where I don’t have to hold them constantly. They seem to accept each other scent. Hopefully I’ll get shots of that sometime this week. They are fine just sitting by each other, wiggling their noses contentedly.

Cooking adventures: My daughter’s veggie sub; vegetarian

My daughter loves kale!

She loves to eat it raw (after it’s been washed), lightly steamed, or cooked.

Saturday, the day before we made our  homemade pizza, I decided to make a vegetable salad with kale being the main ingredient. She was thrilled. I chopped up some vegetables; carrots, tomatoes, onions, garlic and sweet red peppers. All the produce (with the exception of the carrots) came from our garden.

My daughter took this picture, she was proud of her veggie sub. Next time I’ll tell her to turn the open side towards the camera so people can see everything that’s included in the sub.

I put the vegetable salad into a glass storage container and put it in the refrigerator. I thought it would be perfect for a salad, snack or sandwich fixings. My daughter promptly made the above veggie sandwich. She took a picture and asked me to put it on my website. I promised her I would. Next time, I’ll tell her to open the sub or at least turn the sub so people can see all the veggies crammed between the sandwich bread.

Cooking Adventures: Homemade Pizza & Bonding

Mommy, I want to make pizza this weekend. Can we do that? There are a few ingredients I need to purchase but after that we’ll be ready. I’ll let you do most of the pizza making this time, ok? Thanks mom!

We’ll have to let the dough rise before it’s rolled. This will be a perfect time for you to take a nap. Awww, Mom!

Let me demonstrate how to make the crust, then you can take over.
